When you think of artist and creators who have shaped generation’s, whose works have stood the test of time, language barriers and have been successful in multiple mediums not many people come to mind. I would say Walt Disney for sure. Toriyama is the Disney of modern times.
The esteemed creator of the timeless classic Dragon Ball franchise had a way of presenting chrecters that not only visually appealed to the masses but whose stories captured our hearts no matter what age.
Many creators such as producer Ian jones-Quartey (Steven Universe) and director Pierre Perifel (The Bad Guys) have went on record saying they were heavily influenced and inspired by Toriyama.
The Dragonball series has conquered on many fronts, being a strong contributer to Manga actually outselling super hero coming here in the US which is no small feat. Also dominating the video game market for years, having the #1 anime title to be released in theaters with dragonball super broly and so much more.
The affects of Mr. Toriyamas death will be felt across the world for years to come and with a new dragonball series headed our way in the coming months it will be a bitter sweet return of all of us fans. In a statment from his team Mr. Toriyama has passed on March 1st 2024 at the age of 68 with no reason yet given.
