It was surprising news to tons of football fans around the world that the 3-time defensive player of the year has decided to call it quits. Although not as productive as years past, this year was still a good year for Aaron. Entering the season ranked by the NFL at 11 on the top 100 players of 2023 Aaron finished this year with Pro Bowl honors for the tenth time and first team All-Pro honors for the eighth time.
But, why the out of the blue retirement? Maybe it’s as simple as him wanting to enjoy the rest of his life while he can. Football is extremely demanding physically and mentally and for some when they leave the sport there are a ton of life long sickness, injuries and illnesses. So maybe this is the perfect time for him to exit.
I feel more athletes should leave their respective sport on their terms as Aaron Donald did. 10 years with the resume the Aaron Donald has built is quite the accomplishment. Super Bowl Champion, 3x defensive player of the year, 2x sporting news NFL player of the year, 6x Pro football focus player of the year, Defensive rookie of the year, 8x first team all pro selections, 10x pro bowl selections and the all decade 2010’s team just to name a few of those accomplishments.
None the less, after 10 season Aaron call it quits and eventually he will be inducted into the Hall of fame as one of the best defensive football players of all times.
